Guwahati, May 10: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday signalled an ambitious roadmap for the next five years, declaring that his government’s first term from 2021 to 2026 was “just the trailer” and that the coming tenure would “unveil the full picture.”
In a political message ahead of the formal start of the NDA government’s new term on May 12, Sarma said, “2021-2026 was just the trailer. 2026-2031 will unveil the full picture. Get ready for NDA 3.0 — in service from 12th May 2026.”
The statement comes a day when the BJP-led NDA elected Sarma as the leader of the legislature party for a second consecutive term, paving the way for the formation of the new government in Assam.
The remarks are being seen as an indication that the next phase of the government will focus on accelerating flagship infrastructure projects, welfare schemes, investment initiatives, and governance reforms that the BJP has highlighted during its first tenure.
Under Sarma’s leadership since 2021, the Assam government has pushed major initiatives in road connectivity, healthcare expansion, semiconductor investment, education reforms, and crackdowns on child marriage and narcotics trafficking.
Political observers believe the “full picture” remark is aimed at projecting continuity and a stronger mandate for the NDA’s third consecutive term in Assam.
The new government will officially assume office on May 12. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Ministers of many states and industry captains will attend the swearing-in ceremony.
