Williamnagar, July 30: Twenty-four villages in East Garo Hills have been declared as Tuberculosis (TB) free and were felicitated by the office of the District Tuberculosis Officer (DTO) on Tuesday.
Six villages from Dambo-Rongjeng C&RD block, nine from Samanda C&RD block and another nine from Songsak C&RD block received the certificates for being TB free villages in East Garo Hills.
Additional Deputy Commissioner and Williamnagar Municipal Board CEO, Ripamchi N Sangma, in the felicitation programme sought the cooperation of the people to make East Garo Hills district “TB free”.
She said with the availability of advanced medical care facilities, TB can easily be cured and stressed on the need to continue the awareness programs so that TB can be completely eradicated by 2025.
The District Medical and Health Officer, Dr. CEN Sangma, urged the people of the region to work harder to get their villages declared as “TB free”.
During the programme, government officials, Nokmas, Sordars, the Presidents and Secretaries of Village Health Councils, ASHAs, Anganwadi workers, Nikshay Mitras and others participated.
