Guwahati, Nov 9: The body of a 20-year-old girl was recovered by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team after she, along with two other students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar, went missing on Saturday following a fall into a waterfall in Harangajao village in Assam’s Dima Hasao district.
The three students were reportedly swept away by a strong current.
The deceased has been identified as Sarvakritika Singh (20) from Uttar Pradesh. Her body was recovered during the rescue operation. The two missing students have been identified as Radhika (19) from Bihar and Sauhard Rai (20) from Uttar Pradesh.
According to reports, a group of students had gone to the Boulsol waterfall, about 55 km from the NIT Silchar campus, on Saturday afternoon. One of the girl students allegedly slipped and fell into the water, while two others fell in while trying to rescue her.
An official from NIT Silchar confirmed that all three missing persons are students of the institute. “The students had gone there for a Saturday outing,” the official said, requesting anonymity.
The SDRF team and local administration have launched an extensive search operation at the site.
