4 children drown in Tuitha river in Manipur

Imphal, Mar 20: In a tragic incident, four internally displaced children aged 4 to 9 years lost their lives after drowning at Tuitha river in Tuibong, Churachandpur in Manipur on Tuesday. The children were staying at ECA Canan locality relief camp.

The four deceased children have been identified as- Lenchonghoi(9), Lallenchung Lupho(6), Thanggouhou(4) and Thongkhohou(6).

Sources said that the children went for washing at the river during the absence of their parents. “When they failed to return, their parents panicked and started searching for them with the help of local members. The search continued the whole night and at around 6 am today bodies of two children were found floating on the Tuitha river and after 30 minutes two other bodies were retrieved,” said a police officer.

The deceased were taken to hospital for autopsy and after the medical process the bodies were handed over to their parents.
