Shillong, May 30: The District Administration and the District Child Protection Unit, Office has identified and registered four children from the East Khasi Hills District as beneficiaries of the PM Cares for Children scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 29, 2021 to support children who have lost both their parents or legal guardian or adoptive parents or surviving parents to the pandemic, during the period from March 11, 2020, to February 28, 2022.
The objective of the scheme is to ensure comprehensive care and protection of children who have lost their parent(s) to COVID pandemic, in a sustained manner, enable their wellbeing through health insurance, empower them through education and equip them for self-sufficient existence with financial support of Rs. 10 lakh on attaining 23 years of age.
Under the scheme Ayushman Health Cards are also given to children wherein free facility of treatment up to Rs. 5 lakh will also be available for them.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday released benefits under PM CARES for Children Scheme via video conference, which was attended by children along with the Officers from the District Child Protection Unit including the Deputy Commissioner I. Laloo along with Chairperson of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, I. M. Syiem, Member Juvenile Justice Board, N Bareh, Member Child Welfare Committee D. Thangkhiew, Additional Deputy Commissioner D. Phawa, District Child Protection Officer M.L. Warjri, and guardians of the four children from the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Room.

I. Laloo, Deputy Commissioner, also handed over the documents to the children containing the letter from the Prime Minister, Sneh Petra (Certificates of PM CARES), PM CARE for children Passbook, Health Card of AB-Pradhan Mantri-Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-Jay).
