5 arrested for playing football with AK-47 in Manipur’s Kangpokpi

Imphal, Feb 14: Manipur police on Thursday arrested five persons after their video got viral on various social media where they were seen playing football with assault rifles, including AK-47, slung over their shoulders.

The arrested persons were identified as Mangtinlen Kipgen @ Baemang (26), Mangtinlen Kipgen (24), Seithenmang Kipgen (28), Lunminsei Kipgen (21), and Lunkhogin Kipgen (24).

The video which got circulated in various social media where around 10/15 miscreants in camouflage attire and some people in football kits were seen holding sophisticated arms, playing football in full public views violating the Arms Act 1959.

Hanging arms at their shoulders in the video they were seen playing football during an ongoing football match at K. Gamnomphai Village Ground under the Saitu Sub-Division under G Saparmeina police station in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.

According to police, the arrests were made after getting a video circulated on various social media like YouTube, WhatsApp, Facebook, etc.

“We have registerd relevant cases against them. Investigation has been started,” said a police official.

Police said that relevant cases have been registered against them and further investigations started.

The ministry of home affairs on Thursday announced that President’s Rule has been imposed in Manipur. This came days after Manipur CM Biren Singh tendered his resignation to the governor of the state.
