Resubelpara, Jan 21: Along with the rest of the state, Meghalaya Statehood Day was observed today at the Mini Secretariat Conference Hall, Resubelpara, North Garo Hills.
The District Administration, North Garo Hills, Resubelpara, ensured that the celebration of the 53rd Meghalaya Day was a momentous one as it called upon all members of society—from district officials to the general public, both young and old—to join in the celebration.
Paying tribute to the state’s founding fathers who were instrumental in the formation of the state, Deputy Commissioner of North Garo Hills, A.K. Singh, addressed the gathering as the chief guest and highlighted Meghalaya’s transformational journey.
“Meghalaya has come a long way in terms of socio-economic development, progress in education, infrastructural growth and tourism. While we celebrate these achievements, it is also imperative to acknowledge our responsibility towards preserving the environment and thereby creating sustainable livelihoods for the people,” said the Deputy Commissioner.
The DC further urged all stakeholders to reaffirm their commitment to creating a prosperous, united, and inclusive state.
As part of the program, the District Administration identified and felicitated individuals from distinguished fields who have brought fame and glory to the district.
Legendary singer Browny R. Marak from the Riprap Band, Rajmita Rabha, a well-known weaver from the district, Dafiralyn M. Dienghdoh, a dedicated MLHP, Julitha Sangma, a female cricketer representing Meghalaya U-19 Women’s, and late singer Hamilton Momin were honored with the District Meghalaya Day Award.
Marking the occasion, officials and staff of the District Administration, along with officers from various line departments, entertained the gathering with patriotic songs.
