Meghalaya has sufficient supply of Oxygen, 600 LPM plant to be ready soon

Shillong, May 21: Ensuring that the state has a sufficient supply of oxygen, the Meghalaya government is making all necessary arrangements to setup 6 oxygen plants in different parts of the state.

Giving an update on the progress of the installation concerning the oxygen plants, Director of Health Services, Dr. Aman Warr on Friday informed that the oxygen plant which was airlifted from Delhi has reached Guwahati Airport and is on the way to RP Chest Hospital, Shillong.

“As soon as it reaches, the installation will start from tomorrow. We expect early part of next week these machines will be up and running,” informed Dr. Warr.

A 600 LPM plant for Civil Hospital Shillong, which is a big plant will be airlifted on May 25 from Delhi.

In the meantime because of the want of oxygen in Shillong civil hospital, the government has arranged for six generators of 45 litres per minute to be installed at Civil Hospital.

“It was installed and running since last Monday. This is catering to 25 COVID-19 beds, that too on high flow,” said Dr. Warr.

While another plant at Nongpoh, is in the stage of installation since the machine has already reached.

Dr. Warr added that the plants at Ganesh Das Hospital will be up and running by tomorrow. All the plants at Civil Hospital Shillong, Ganesh Das and RP Chest Hospital is under the PMCARES Government of India.

The other plants that are from UNDP, is at Jowai, Nongpoh and Tura. As for the plants in these areas the machine has reached, and will be up and running early next week.
Dr. Warr informed that from the state government, another plant is being setup at Khliehriat and Umsawli.

Under UNICEF, all other hospitals will be provided with such small plants so that they can cater to the oxygen requirement as and when required.

Besides these govt has come up with two cryogenic tanks to be setup at Umsawli in Shillong and is expected to be functional by June 15.

Dr. Warr said that this plant will cater to the cylinders in the state and is expected to deliver 1,000 cylinders refilling capacity in a day, this is a 13 KL plant in Shillong.

The other will be at Jengjal, Tura, the tank which is a 20 KL plant is expected to reach within two weeks’ time. “Site preparation has already been done. This will cater to 2,000 cylinders per day. We expect these plants will be sufficient, to give a continuous supply of oxygen to the different regions in Meghalaya,” said Dr Warr.
