SHILLONG, MAY 15: Deputy chief minister in charge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar on Tuesday informed that eighty percent of the work for 17 projects implemented under the Smart City project will be completed within this year.
Speaking to reporters, Dhar said, “As of now the works for the 17 projects, which includes parking lots, vending zones, markets etc are going on in full swing and we expect to achieve 80% progress by this year.”
He informed that the Laitumkhrah market and Polo market are on the verge of completion.
“The parking lot at Motphran, rainwater harvesting projects are in progress,” he said all projects are under constant monitoring by the department.
Dhar however said that the project, which is not progressing at a fast pace, is the smart road project due to unavailability of land.
“The smart road is being implemented by PWD but there are hurdles in getting some land, this project is connected with other line departments like PWD, MeECL which is why the work is going on a slow pace,” he said.
He said that the traffic movement will also be affected by the project. “We are not blaming the contractor. We have done a detailed survey, but the implementing part is very challenging. Therefore we will sit and discuss again on whether to move ahead with this project,” he added.
