A ‘bridge too far’ in Rompa

Must read

Tura, Feb 4: The Rompa bridge which is also popularly known as a ‘bridge too far’ in Baghmara region has been left unrepaired since its collapse a year ago, this has forced the people to improvise and move out of the village for their daily needs.

A social activist from Mindikgre, South Garo Hills, Grenath M Sangma, has registered a strong complaint expressing disappointment with authorities, especially with the Baghmara Block, for its failure to reconstruct the bridge that has been left unattended midway under construction, a few years back.

“Villagers from thirteen villages under Baghmara C&RD Block approached the BDO expressing willingness to use their wages under MGNREGA for construction of the bridge in 2018 but nothing moved. The steering committee already approached the authorities but no steps for preparing the re-estimate have been done till today. We the residents of 13 villages strongly object to this lackluster attitude,” said Sangma.
