Absence of anti-incumbency against MDA Govt helping state to progress: Ampareen

Must read

SHILLONG, MAR 2: Meghalaya is in the right trajectory for growth and progress because the Conrad K Sangma-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government faces no anti-incumbency factor from any side ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, believes health minister Ampareen Lyngdoh and NPP candidate for the Shillong lok Sabha seat.

“Define anti-incumbency. You have just gone through the latest budget presentation by the CM and you still think (that). Everywhere we are going there is progress and development. I was in Rambrai seven months back and the roads there were in horrible condition. Today there is a perfect road there,” Lyngdoh said while interacting with reporters in Shillong on Friday.

She hailed the progress made in the farming sector of the state with farmers being able to do more and earn more than ever before.

“Look at the income generated and livelihood generation of a lot of our programmes in the farming sector. They are all indicative that we are progressing…so where is the anti-incumbency? I do not foresee any anti-incumbency,” she claimed.

Stating that the right place to challenge the government on its work is the assembly, Ampareen pointed out that “You have a perfect place for the discussion of anti-incumbency and that is on the floor of the House. When you don’t come when the matter is raised, where is the question of us responding to any anti-incumbency?”

The cabinet minister also claimed that the state under the NPP-led MDA government is doing exceptionally well in the health sector, education sector, tourism sector etc.

On the employment scenario of the state, she asked, “You have just heard the presentation of the chief minister. Do you not believe that the creation of jobs has happened? Different line departments have conducted fair playing level fields for applicants. Where is the anti-incumbency? You tell me anti-incumbency comes from where?”

She ridiculed opponents of the government who “will shout for the sake of shouting without any substance”.

The cabinet minister also said that members of coalition partners ought to speak sensibly and not talk for the mere sake of talking when asked.

Endorsing her own candidature for the Shillong MP seat, Ampareen said an MP has to be the voice for the people of the state. “Many issues of the state are fought on the streets when they need to be decided at the centre. I am here to voice these issues to the correct channel.”

She continued: “Is a cabinet chair so important that I will forfeit the need of my state in such turmoil when you have seen all around you the fear that people have, the stories that are being circulated in the social media, the insecurities that we are feeling – this is all real. UCC is real. CAA is real. Secular protection in the country is real. Fragile border disputes are real. Trade and communication is real. These are all real issues. If people feel I can be that one person I will be willing to give it a shot, everything else is irrelevant to me at that point of time.”

Taking a swipe at opposition Congress MP from Shillong Vincent Pala, Meanwhile, Lyngdoh alleged that the Shillong parliamentary constituency is missing a bridge to connect between the state and the centre as it has been in a dilapidated condition for too long.

“Therefore, we need to correct this (as) there is a need for a correct connection between the chief minister, ministers of the state and MPs….,” she added further.
