FASTOM spokesperson Mayborn Lyngdoh announced that the adhoc teachers have decided to organize a massive public rally from 12:30 noon on Thursday and camp overnight on the street in front of the main secretariat, which will also be attended by teachers from Garo Hills.

Lyngdoh said that for the last two months the Adhoc teachers had been protesting against the adamant attitude of the government and on 1 May the association had sought an audience with the chief minister to discuss on their demands but till date the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) had not even replied to their plea.

Lyngdoh said that last week the FASTOM had relaxed their agitation after the meeting with Additional Chief Secretary D.P. Wahlang, who informed them that the file had been moved to the planning department for necessary action.

“Since the chief minister had not called us for talks, we will hold a massive public rally tomorrow in front of the main secretariat in Shillong and we will camp overnight in the street in front of the main secretariat if the chief minister fails to invite us for talks tomorrow,” said Lyngdoh.

He also stated that the chief minister is wrong in saying that the state government had to spend hundreds of crores to enhance the salary of the teachers when the actual amount is only Rs. 152 crores per annum and Rs. 12.74 crores is needed to enhance the salary of Adhoc teachers.
