Ampati, Sept 26: Tura MP Agatha Sangma chaired the District Development Coordination & Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting at the DRDA Conference Hall in Ampati on Tuesday, where she was apprised of the host of issues being faced by the district which need urgent attention.

The meeting, attended by various dignitaries, including Subir Marak, MLA of Rangsakona, and Sanjay Sangma, MLA of Mahendraganj, addressed significant developmental issues concerning the South West Garo Hills District.

During the meeting, representatives from 15 departments reviewed their respective developmental works in the district and presented comprehensive reports on the status of their ongoing projects, highlighting achievements, challenges, and future plans. The discussions were constructive and aimed at finding solutions to overcome hurdles and expedite the pace of development. Notable concerns and proposals emerged from these discussions, reflecting the commitment of the local authorities to address the pressing needs of their constituents.

The Medical Department raised the vital issue of the need for child specialists and anesthetists in the Civil Hospital. Furthermore, they highlighted the necessity of a separate blood bank, even in the presence of a blood storage unit in the district. MP Agatha Sangma pledged to take these concerns up with the relevant ministries, underlining her dedication to improving healthcare services in the region.

The Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) department pointed out the absence of power supply at Anganwadi centers, a crucial issue affecting early childhood development programs.

Agatha Sangma expressed her commitment to resolving this issue by liaising with the concerned ministry. She expressed her commitment to the holistic development of the South West Garo Hills District, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts among various government departments to ensure that the region reaches its full potential.

During the meeting, she also extended her gratitude to all the line departments for their comprehensive presentations. She also acknowledged the contributions of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Additional Deputy Commissioners, Block Development Officers (BDOs), and the attending MLAs, recognizing their ability to provide invaluable data and insights. Agatha Sangma emphasized that the information gathered at the DISHA meeting will facilitate improvements and enable issues to be effectively addressed with the relevant ministries.

Agatha Sangma also highlighted the challenges faced by beneficiaries when banks reject their loan applications, which can be demoralizing. She suggested increased support and coordination between the District Industries Centre (DCIC) and banks to better assist beneficiaries in securing loans for their projects.

Subir Marak, MLA of Rangsakona, proposed the establishment of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) in Damalgre, emphasizing the importance of education for the district’s youth. He also called upon the concerned department and DC to ensure the timely delivery of food grains for midday meals to schools through wholesalers and dealers.

Sanjay Sangma, MLA of Mahendraganj, addressed the issue of incomplete projects within his constituency and urged for their expeditious completion. He also mentioned the urgent need for ambulances in some Primary Health Centers (PHCs) and assured that he had taken up the matter with the Chief Minister, indicating that these ambulances are ready for dispatch.

The DISHA meeting served as a platform for collaborative efforts between various stakeholders to drive positive change and development in the South West Garo Hills District. The commitment shown by the attending dignitaries reflects their dedication to addressing the district’s needs and improving the lives of its residents.
