Guwahati, Jan 19: In a public meeting held in Manikpur, Bongaigaon, on Friday, AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal expressed strong opinions about Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commenting on Sarma’s political choices, raising concerns about potential changes in support from the Muslim community.
Speaking to the crowd, the AIUDF chief said that there was a time when the CM held a leadership role for Muslims within the Congress party, during which he received a lot of support from the people, urging the CM not to compromise it.
In advising the CM, Ajmal suggested that expressing some level of disagreement is important. He further claimed that failure to do so might result in Amit Shah ‘harming’ the CM’s political stance within the party.
Ajmal also cautioned that despite having numerous ‘enemies’, that there remains a singular ally, ‘You may have many opponents, but we have one ally – ‘Allah.'”
Ajmal’s statement comes after Himanta Sarma recently announced that the Government will close down around 1000 private madrassas in the state, and convert them into general schools. He had further stated that BJP doesn’t want votes of Miya Muslim but they were voting for the party willingly.
