Imphal, Aug 29: The crucial one-day session of the Manipur Assembly on Tuesday witnessed a ruckus and chaos as opposition members disrupted proceedings.
Slogans like ‘Save Democracy’ were raised inside the Manipur Assembly.
The speaker of the house adjourned the session for half an hour following war of words between the Opposition and Treasury benches erupted.
Also, Congress raised objection on to the two-minute silence that was observed for those killed in the Manipur violence and demanded extension of the single-day session for five days.
The house was likely to hold a discussion on the state’s prevailing situation of ethnic strife, although most of the Kuki MLAs, regardless of party affiliations, are likely to skip the session over safety concerns.
It must be noted that there is no live telecast of Manipur Assembly sessions.
Last month, government had recommended a session by August 21, but later it was to August 28 after it did not get green signal from the Raj Bhavan.
