“An Exciting Experience”: Meghalaya Chef Nambie Marak on managing Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia’s Instagram post

Guwahati, Mar 9: It’s the coolest thing I am doing today, says renowned chef and first runner-up of MasterChef India, Nambie Marak, who got a rare opportunity to handle the Instagram post of Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on International Women’s Day.

“It was an unforgettable Women’s Day experience of handling the social media account of Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia Instagram ,” she told HubNews. She was selected as part of a special initiative celebrating women achievers and used the opportunity to share her journey, insights, and the vibrant culture of Meghalaya.

The chef’s Instagram expressed her excitement and nervousness about curating content for such a significant platform. “It was truly one of the most exciting things I’ve done this year. I got a chance to share a glimpse of my life—something I never imagined I’d be able to do, especially from such a powerful platform,” she said.

Despite travelling from Shillong to her home in Upper Rangsa, Meghalaya—a journey of 145 km—on the day of the social media takeover, she embraced the challenge and decided to document her journey. “I was honestly nervous about what to post, and to add to the challenge, I was travelling. But then I thought—why not document this journey itself?” Marak recounted.

Her posts gave followers an intimate look into her life, highlighting Meghalaya’s rich traditions and landscapes. Along the way, she met a group of enterprising women selling fresh produce, which she described as a serendipitous moment that added depth to her storytelling. She also shared glimpses of the delicious local meals she enjoyed, including a memorable lunch at ‘Machelenka’ in Boko, Assam.

Marak, who runs a school and actively engages in multiple initiatives, found the experience deeply meaningful. “As a woman and someone who has achieved a few milestones, it felt special to have this space to tell my story,” she noted.

Expressing gratitude to Minister Scindia for the opportunity, Marak reflected on the importance of representation and storytelling. Her takeover not only offered personal insights but also shone a light on the culture, food, and everyday experiences of women in the region.

She has her brand, Eat Your Kappa, which specializes in transforming traditional recipes into gourmet experiences, celebrating the rich flavours and cultural heritage of Northeast India. “Our mission is to make high-quality, artisanal pickles accessible to food enthusiasts across India and beyond,” she says.
