Army Chief to visit Manipur to review security condition

Imphal, May 27: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Manoj Pande will visit violence-hit Manipur on Saturday (May 27). He will review the security conditions in the violence-affected state.

He will also visit the affected areas in the state along with Eastern Commander.

Meanwhile, security forces have launched operations in five new places keeping in view the present situation. One to two columns of Army have been sent to these places and area domination has been increased as apprehension of presence of armed mob there.

According to reports, on Friday night, one case of arson was reported from Bishnupur. Prior to that, forces prevented two communities fight in Churachandpur.

Amid fresh incidents of violence in at least three districts, Manipur CM N Biren Singh on Friday again appealed to the people to maintain peace and harmony and announced holding of peace talks with all communities and stakeholders to normalise the situation.

On Friday, some women organisations burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister N Biren Singh, newly appointed Security Advisor to Manipur Government Kuldiep Singh and overall operational commander Ashutosh Sinha.

One of the protesters slammed the BJP government and said following the May 3 incident in Manipur, people across the state are living in panic and uncertain situations.
