Shillong, Nov 14: The West Jaiñtia Hills ASHA Association, a branch of the Meghalaya ASHA Union, organised a protest rally at Jowai on Tuesday to press their demands from the state government.
The Rally which started from Madan Tympang Iawmusiang culminated at Madan Dai-Masi, Ladthadlaboh where a short meeting held.
The ASHA volunteers had demanded an increase in their incentives from Rs. 2,000 per month, which amounts to Rs. 66 per day, and they had started to stop volunteering since November 6.
The President of the Meghalaya ASHA Union, M. June Myrsing, informed that the health minister, Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh, had urged the ASHAs to resume their work, but the Union rejected the plea until an assurance was provided by the Government on their demand.
She further reiterated that the health department had informed the media that Rs. 34 crore had already been released for the ASHAs in the state, but this agitation is for the year 2023.
Myrsing further announced that the agitation will continue until their demands are met.
