Guwahati, Dec 3: A drug peddler was killed while two of his accomplices sustained bullet injuries in a police firing in Assam’s Kamrup on Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, contraband drugs were also seized from their possession.
The deceased was identified as Salam, a resident of Guwahati’s Hatigaon area.
The two other accomplices have been identified as Hiranya Thakuria and Faizuk Haque.
According to the police, a team of the Special Task Force (STF), after getting inputs, laid a trap in the Agyathuri area around 14 kms from Guwahati.
“The team intercepted a vehicle, which later turned into a gunfight. The police resorted to firing, resulting in the death of the drug peddler. The other two were injured in firing were apprehended later,” said a police official.
The injured drug peddler were shifted to TRB Civil Hospital in Kamrup owing to their bullet injuries.
“One police constable, Hima Das, has also sustained bullet injuries during the firing incident between police and drug peddlers. Two civilians identified as Noor Islam and Rebati Bharali have also sustained bullet injuries and are undergoing medical treatment at the TRB Civil Hospital,” the police officer said.
