Assam: 2 men attempting to hijack cab at gun point held, arms seized

Silchar, Oct 31: Two men attempting to hijack a cab at gun point in Assam’s Silchar district were nabbed by locals and handed them over to police.

They have been  identified as Bikramjit Sinha and Bikranjit Sinha, both sons of Bapu Sena Sinha and according to their statement, they are residents of Haflong.

“Two men hired my cab from Park Road in Silchar for Airport. As the car approached the airport, the men inside the car offered me to  pay Rs 50,000. They asked me to rent them the car for four days and they will drive it themselves. I refused and asked them to pay me the fare they booked me for. That is when they pointed a gun at me to my shock,” said the driver of the car, Kajol Hussain Laskar.Giving more details on the incident, Laskar added, “I  jumped off after slowing down the car and cried for help. Both the men inside the car tried to flee with the vehicle, but then one of the local residents managed to snatch the key. The locals of the Udarbond area then chased the men down and nabbed them and handed them over to police.”

Cachar SP, Ramandeep Kaur rushed to the Udarbond to take stock of the investigation.

The officials have seized four pistols from them including air gun, spray gun, four bullets, one knife, torches, mobile phones among other things.

“We are investigating the matter to find if the seized weapons are licensed to them. It is a case of armed dacoity and we are probing the allegations. We are investigating the matter to find if seized weapons are licensed to them. We are probing every allegation,” said SP Ramandeep Kaur.
