Assam: 26 Rohingyas detained in Silchar

Guwahati, May 29: Silchar police detained 26 Myanmari’s nationals in Assam’s Silchar when they entered the city with hired Innova car on Sunday morning.

According to police, on Saturday night they reached Guwahati through a train from Jammu and landed at Kamakhya railway station.

“Our patrolling party suspected, and during interrogation, they were found to be Rohingya Muslim of Myanmar. Among 26, 6 of them are female and other 6 are male and rest of them are children. Preliminary investigation revealed that someone from Silchar contacted them and told them to come here,” said Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur.

The SP added, “Right now, we don’t know much about them but preliminary investigation revealed that they are Rohingya. We have arrested them for illegally entering India and as per law we will proceed in the case.”

It is learnt that during the persecution of Rohingyas in Myanmar, all of them fled the country and secretly took refuge in Jammu and Kashmir and, thereafter, moved to Delhi after several years and, later, moved to Assam.
