Guwahati, May 4: In a tragic incident, a first-grade student, aged 6, lost her life after being hit by a speeding truck carrying bricks in Akhiranga village of Kaliabor today.

The victim, identified as Nikita Saikia, was a student of Kaliabor Shishu Niketan school. The accident occurred around 1 pm when she was crossing the road in front of her house after returning from school. The driver fled the scene following the collision. She died on the spot.

Police have seized the vehicle involved and sent the girl’s body for autopsy. The hit-and-run incident has left the locals in a state of shock and mourning.
