Guwahati, Sept 29: In a massive crackdown against drugs, Assam police have arrested three teenage boys from Cachar district for allegedly smuggling large amount of heroin.
According to police, the consignment came from a neighbouring state and it was going to Maharashtra.
Police said they recovered 88 soap boxes containing 1.15 kilogram of suspected heroin.
“Based on a specific information, we launched a search operation in Kabuganj area Sonai. During the operation, we intercepted a vehicle coming from a neighbouring state and recovered the narcotics kept in secret chambers in that vehicle,” said Cachar Additional SP (HQ), Subrata Sen.
He added, “We have arrested the three drug peddlers from that vehicle and in the initial investigation, we found that they are residents of Cachar district.”
They are residents of Bhaga Bazar and North Hawaithan area under Dholai police station which is near Assam-Mizoram border.
“The price of the product would have gotten much higher if they had managed to take the consignment to Mumbai,” said a police official.
