Assam: AAP, Raijor Dal stages huge protest against PPE kits scam, seeks removal of CM Sarma

Guwahati, June 9: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Raijor Dal on Thursday staged a massive protest in Guwahati seeking removal of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over his alleged involvement in the PPE kits scam.

Both the parties held demonstrations in different areas of Guwahati with placards and banners and demanded an inquiry against the Chief Minister.

AAP members submitted a memorandum to Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi through Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha. They demanded immediate removal of the chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and to initiate an inquiry against him.

On Monday, Assam unit of Aam Aadmi Party had lodged a complaint at Latasil police station in Guwahati against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma and a few businessmen, alleging their involvement in a scam committed during procurement of PPE kits and sanitizers during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Then Himanta Biswa Sarma was the Health Minister in the Sarbananda Sonowal ministry.

Similarly, Raijor Dal members led by Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi gheraoed National Health Mission office and demanded a CBI inquiry into the alleged scam of PPE kits in Assam. The members raised slogan against chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his alleged involvement in the PPE kits scam.

“For the second time, we staged protest against the PPE kits scam. When everybody was locked inside home during Covid-19, the PPE kits scam happened in Assam and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was involved in the scam. We demand a CBI inquiry into the PPE kits scam,” said Akhil Gogoi.
