Guwahati, Nov 10: Hundreds of Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers of Assam staged a massive protest in Guwahati’s Chachal on Friday, demanding fulfilment of their demands of regular salaries, reduced work time, among others.
During the protest, the ASHA workers voiced their demands for a fixed monthly salary of at least Rs 15,000 and to reduce their work time.
As per reports, the frontline workers in the state have written several times to senior officials in the state health department highlighting their demands and problems. They also alleged that Assam government officials have only promised to fulfil their demands, and done nothing more. Also, government has been oblivious to the issues faced by them.
The ASHA workers are paid a nominal monthly remuneration of just Rs. 3,000, which they say is not only insufficient but inhumane.
