Although Meghalaya government hasn’t agreed to enhance the honorarium for the ASHA workers of the State to Rs. 5,000, but not all has been lost as the government has agreed to increase the current honorarium marginally. Meghalaya Government has agreed to increase the monthly fixed incentive or honorarium from Rs. 2000 to Rs. 3000 following their meeting with the ASHA workers on Wednesday.

The president of the East Jaiñtia ASHA Association - Khliehriat Unit, Pretty Jyrwa, questioned the health minister, Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh, about the Rs. 3,000 when they are paid only Rs. 2,000 per month while the government claims to have paid the ASHAs Rs. 5,000.
The appeal was made after the ASHA workers decided to go for an indefinite strike since November 7, as a mark of the protest against the government’s apathy towards their demands which include honorarium enhancement.
