Guwahati, Nov 10: The All Assam Computer Teachers’ Association began a three-day protest in Chachal area of Guwahati on Friday demanding regularization of their services and pay parity among other issues.
They alleged that the State Education Department has failed to fulfil their needs and solve the problems faced by them.
However, soon after, they called off their agitation after they were assured that due steps would be taken towards the resolution of their problems.
A teachers’ association member said they had been working towards the computer literacy of the students of the state with very little pay and poor infrastructure. But with the end of their contractual period in 2017, they were rendered jobless, creating problems for them and the students.
In the following year, the state government re-employed 1348 candidates through the Banikanta Kakati Computer Literacy Programme, and they were told to take the elective computer paper in classes 9 and 10. Apart from taking classes, they were engaged in several other activities, including online form filling, online registration, etc., but their salaries have been lower than those of the Grade IV employees.
