Silchar, Dec 26: The Bajrang Dal stopped Christmas celebrations in Assam’s Silchar town on Saturday. The oldest Presbyterian Church situated at Ambikapatty in Tarapur area of Silchar organised several programme’s during Christmas but the youths of Bajrang Dal stopped their celebrations.
The situation in Silchar was tense after the situation. Police intervened into the matter and controlled the situation.
From morning, the Silchar Presbyterian Church organised several programmes to mark the Christmas celebration. In the evening, people from several communities gathered at the Church to celebrate the Christmas but the youths of Bajrang Dal went there and asked the organising committee to stop the celebrations.
“We have no problem, Christians celebrate Christmas but we are against the the Hindu boys and girls participating in Christmas functions,” said a youth of Bajrang Dal.
Last year, in Silchar, the Bajrang Dal leaders asked the Hindus to restrict themselves from going to Church during Christmas.
