Assam CM says indigenous people will not vote for Congress

Must read

Guwahati, March 25: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Congress, asserting that “no local indigenous Indian” would vote for the party in the upcoming elections.

Speaking to reporters during his campaign, Sarma said the Congress lacked a credible agenda, citing its long tenure in power. “They have no agenda because people have already seen what they delivered in the last 60 years. We have completely turned around Assam. Today, people see a new Assam rooted in strong cultural heritage,” he said.

He claimed that the BJP enjoys overwhelming support among the indigenous population. “People are completely with the BJP, except Bangladeshi infiltrators. No local indigenous Indian will vote for Congress,” Sarma asserted.

Taking a swipe at the opposition’s vision, the Chief Minister said, “Some are dreaming of a ‘Natun Bor Axom’ with Bangladeshi infiltrators. We are happy with the ‘Purana Bor Axom’.”

Highlighting development plans, Sarma said the government is focusing on infrastructure expansion, particularly in Nagaon. “We want to develop Nagaon in the next five years with an expressway and an airport. A survey for the airport has already been ordered,” he said.

He added that industrial growth is gaining momentum in Assam, though land availability remains a key challenge. “An atmosphere of industrialisation is emerging, but we need to identify land for industrial setups,” he noted.

Sarma also reiterated plans to improve connectivity. “We are planning an expressway to reduce travel time between Guwahati and Nagaon. Infrastructure development remains our top priority,” he said.

The Chief Minister was campaigning for BJP candidate Rupak Sarmah in Batadrava, where he addressed a large poll rally.

Electioneering has intensified across Assam following the announcement of poll dates by the Election Commission of India, with all major parties stepping up campaigns across the state.
