Guwahati, Dec 15: Assam DGP G.P. Singh on Friday stated that the banned United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) is “free to target” him.
Talking to reporters, DGP G.P. Singh said, “People who love Assam should not disturb the people of Assam. I live in Kahilipara; you are free to target me.”
“People of Assam must question them as to why they are doing this. If they have something personal against someone than do it accordingly. They talk about me but when did I say I am afraid of them. My house is in Kahilipara and office is in Ulubari. If you have problem with me, come and target me,” he asserted.
The statement of DGP comes after two recent grenade blasts in the State by ULFA-I.
“We will take strongest possible action against the culprits whoever have done these acts. We are in touch with National Investigative Agency (NIA) and they are coming to Guwahati for the investigation,” the DGP further said.
Taking responsibility of the blasts, the anti-talks faction ULFA-I stated that these attacks serve as a warning to DGP G.P. Singh over his perceived treatment of Assam Police as his “ancestral property.”
The first incident occurred on November 22, whereby a grenade explosion took place after two motorcycle-borne miscreants tried to hurl it inside the Army camp in Dirak, Kakopothar under Tinsukia district but the grenade couldn’t land inside the army camp. Days after the incident outside the Army camp, another explosion occurred on December 9 at the 149 CRPF in Joysagar, Sivasagar district. On December 14, a grenade explosion occurred near the Lichubari Army camp in upper Assam’s Jorhat. ULFA-I has taken responsibility for all the three blasts.
