Assam: GMC Chief Engineer caught red-handed taking bribe

Guwahati, March 23: The Chief Engineer of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), Indrajit Bora, has been apprehended by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption for his alleged involvement in a bribery case.

Earlier, a complaint was received by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing against the officer. It was alleged that Bora had demanded Rs 10,000 as a bribe from the complainant in exchange for a security deposit of Rs 1.60 lakh.

A team of officials from the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing laid a trap on Wednesday and caught the officer red-handed while accepting Rs 6,000 as part of the bribe demand.

According to officials, the bribe amount was recovered from the possession of Bora and has been seized in the presence of independent witnesses.

“During the search of the accused public servant’s residential premises, Rs 6,93,600 in cash, electronic equipment, and documents related to 19 bank accounts in the name of the accused and family members have been recovered,” informed the officer.
