Assam Governor removes Ranjit Tamuli as Dibrugarh University Vice-Chancellor

Guwahati,  Nov 22: Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi on Monday removed suspended Dibrugarh Vice chancellor Professor Ranjit Tamuli from his post after finding anomalies and misappropriation of Dibrugarh University funds.

After careful examination of the response submitted by Prof. Ranjit Tamuli, Vice Chancellor (Since Suspended) in response to the communication No. GSA.12/21/Pt.11/10 dated October 06, 2021 including the Revised Inquiry Report submitted by the High Level Inquiry Committee, the Chancellor cum Governor, Assam, after meticulous analysis has accepted the findings of the Revised Inquiry Report submitted by the High Level Inquiry Committee and rejected the submissions made by Prof. Ranjit Tamuli, Vice Chancellor (Since Suspended) in his response dated 03.11.2021.

The Governor of Assam in his capacity as Chancellor of the Dibrugarh University [(Section 8 (1) of the Dibrugarh University Act, 1965)], being the appointing authority of Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University [(Section 10(1) of the Dibrugarh University Act, 1965] and in exercise of the powers conferred upon him in terms of Section 10 (1) of the Dibrugarh University Act, 1965 read with Section 18 of the Assam General Clauses Act, 1915,  to remove Prof. Ranjit Tamuli from the office of the Vice-Chancellor, Dibrugarh University with immediate effect.

Earlier, Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi suspended Tamuli following allegation of financial irregularities and misapplication of government funds against him.

Mukhi had constituted a high-level inquiry committee to go into details of the functioning of the Dibrugarh University for the last five years and inquire into financial allegations.

The Dibrugarh University Teachers’ Association, Dibrugarh University Officers’ Association, Dibrugarh University Employees’ Association and MLA from Lahowal constituency had earlier submitted petitions to Mukhi, who is the Chancellor of the University, about financial anomalies and misappropriation of funds by Tamuli.
