Guwahati, March 10: The Assam police on Friday arrested a person for allegedly murdering his one-year-old child in Sonitpur district.

The accused has been identified as one Sachin Bordoloi of Gohpur.

“The man’s wife filed a complaint accusing him of killing his own son. We arrested him following his wife complaint. Sachin left his home with his infant on Thursday but failed to return,” said a police official.

Police recovered the child’s body in a paddy field.

Suspicions arose over Bordoloi’s involvement in the crime after he was missing following the incident.

“After committing the crime, the accused left for Cementchapri and returned home at around 3 a.m. on Friday. The victim’s mother accused her husband of committing the crime. In response to her complaint, the police arrested him. So far, it has come to light that he committed the crime as a result of certain family conflicts,” a senior police officer said.

On the other hand, the locals of the area have demanded stern action against the accused.
