Assam – Meghalaya boundary Dispute: East Jaintia Hills Regional Committee to hold joint meet with Assam counterpart on Nov 28

Shillong, Nov 24: The Regional Committee for East Jaintia Hills will hold a joint meeting with its Assam counterpart in Shillong on November 28 on discuss on ways to solve the border dispute between the two states relating to Ratacherra.

The Regional Committee for East Jaintia Hills is headed by Tourism Minister Sniawbhalang with Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui as one of its members. The committee is likely to submit its report to the respective Chief Ministers of Assam and Meghalaya after the joint meeting.

The regional committees from both sides have been asked to complete the exercise by November 30.

“We will have a joint meeting in Shillong to discuss on how to solve the issue (relating to Ratacherra, which is one of six areas of difference),” said Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui told reporters on Wednesday.

The Home Minister did not divulge any information on their findings and suggestions after their ground work stating: “I don’t want to prejudge anything or to disclose anything as of now since the (border) talks are at its crucial juncture. I don’t want to make any statement which may affect and instead of solving the problem, aggravating the problem.”

He further asserted the need to have a positive mindset to solve the border issue.
