Guwahati, May 2: In a major crackdown against the banned militant outfit Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO), Assam Police have arrested three of its cadres and recovered an explosive device buried in the river bank in Chirang district.

The arrested militants have been identified as Robin Barman alias Lankeshwar Koch alias Lambu (Hekaipara), Utpal Roy alias Pankaj Koch (Gossaigaon) and Dhananjay Barman (Noitamara).

Acting on a tip-off, a police team from Basugaon police station conducted a raid at a hotel on the station road area and nabbed the three KLO insurgents. During interrogation, they revealed crucial information about an explosive device planted along the banks of the Champabati River near Kachudola village.

In an overnight operation, the police team recovered the bomb concealed in the sands of the river bank at Kachudola, thereby averting a potential sabotage incident in the Basugaon area.

Talking to reporters, Pranjit Bora, Superintendent of Police, Chirang district, said, “We had been receiving inputs for the last few months that KLO militants and some anti-social elements were planning to disrupt peace in the area. Acting on specific intelligence, we launched this operation. We managed to arrest three KLO cadres, as well as recover a hidden explosive device from the river bank.”

Bora added, “Investigations are underway to determine the source of the explosive material and unravel the conspiracy behind this suspected sabotage attempt. We are conducting further raids and searches to nab any other individuals involved in this nefarious plot to derail peace in the region.”

The district police head assured that strict action would be taken against anyone found guilty of such anti-social activities.
