Guwahati, April 20: In a major crackdown in cyber crime Guwahati police arrested four persons involved with various cyber financial frauds.
The arrested individuals were identified as Dipak Singh, Rupam Goswami, Firoz Khan and Shlok Kumar.
Dipak, Rupam and Firoz hail from West Bengal while Shlok is from Bihar.
Acting on an intelligence tip police conducted raid. A joint team of East District and Crime Branch, Guwahati under ACP, Basistha apprehended the members of the gang. The criminals were operating from a rented room in Bhetapara area, informed police official.
He further added, that “during spot interrogation, it was revealed that the gang would collect bank accounts details from victims specially financially weak persons and lured them in the trap to share their bank account details including personal ATM card and ATM PIN numbers. The gang would promise heavy monetary returns against the use of the bank accounts, and later use those bank accounts to route the money generated through cyber financial frauds without the knowledge of the account holders,”.
The police officer said, “sometimes they would offer the original account holder a good percentage of the fraudulently transacted amount.
During investigation the police team seized twelve mobile phones, one HP Laptop, several bank debit cards from the possession of persons.
According to police, a case has been registered with Section 66-D of Information Technology Act, 2000 at Cyber police station in Guwahati.
