Must read

Guwahati, Feb 10: As the parliamentary elections draw near, political parties in Assam are gearing up their preparations, selecting their preferred constituencies for fielding candidates.

In Assam, Nagaon is one of the important Lok Sabha seats where the Congress party is currently evaluating potential candidates to field in the constituency.

Nagaon has always been a preferable seat for Congress, where their candidates have done well. Last time, Congress leader Pradyut Bordoloi won from the constituency.

Sources from the party revealed that three to four names have been shortlisted and sent to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) for screening and analysis of their ‘winnability”.

The frontrunners include the sitting MP from Nowgong, Pradyut Bordoloi, Kaliabor MP Gaurav Gogoi, and Samaguri MLA Rakibul Hussain.

The final decision on candidates for all Lok Sabha seats in Assam is expected to be announced within the next 10 days.

Congress leader Pradyut Bordoloi won the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency with a margin of 16,752 votes by defeating Rupak Sharma of the BJP in the last parliamentary polls. Pradyut Bordoloi secured 7,39,724 votes. Pradyut Bordoloi of INC is the incumbent MP for the Nowgong constituency.
