Changlang, June 13: In a bid to improve access to eye care services in remote Arunachal Pradesh, the Changlang Battalion of the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the district administration and district health department, organised a free eye screening camp at Changlang District Hospital on Friday.
The daylong camp was conducted by Dibrugarh-based NGO Bright Vision NE, with eye specialists examining around 250 patients from different age groups, ranging from a four-month-old infant to a woman aged over 100 years.
Doctors screened patients for various eye ailments and provided free medicines during the camp. Spectacles were also made available at subsidised rates, benefiting residents who often have limited access to specialised eye care services.
The initiative highlighted the continuing need for improved healthcare infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh, particularly in the field of ophthalmic care, where specialised services remain scarce in many districts.
Hospital staff assisted in the smooth conduct of the programme, while local residents welcomed the initiative and expressed gratitude to the Assam Rifles, district administration and health department for bringing eye care services closer to the community.
Many beneficiaries urged the authorities to organise similar camps on a regular basis to help bridge healthcare gaps in the frontier district.
The camp forms part of ongoing efforts by the Assam Rifles and local authorities to enhance healthcare outreach in remote areas of Arunachal Pradesh, where access to specialist medical services continues to be a challenge.
