Aizawl, Jan 27: Assam Rifles seized heroin worth over Rs 42 lakh, foreign cigarettes worth Rs 12 lakh 50 thousand and beer worth Rs 36 thousand from 2 smugglers in Mizoram’s Zemabawk Aizawl on Wednesday.

The heroin seized weighs 107 grams.
On the other hand, 5000 packets of foreign cigarettes and 72 cans of beer were also seized by the Assam Rifles troopers.

The operation was carried out by a joint team of Assam Rifles and Excise and Narcostics department, Aizawl.

Two smugglers have also been apprehended by the Assam Rifles during the operation.

“Drugs are mostly smuggled through Indo-Myanmar border. The ongoing smuggling of drugs is a major cause of concern for the Mizoram. Security forces are on alert and recently a huge quantity of contraband items were seized from border area,” said an officer of Assam Rifles.

The Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles has recently recovered 10 cases of beer and 140 packets of illegal local liquor during an operation in Zokhawthar in Champhai district of Mizoram.
