Assam showcases homegrown semiconductor chips at Semicon India 2025

Must read

Guwahati, Sept 2: Assam has made a mark in India’s semiconductor journey with two of its innovations being showcased at Semicon India 2025. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Tata OSAT Chip and the Neural Amplifier Frontend IC developed at NIT Silchar were among the first “Made in India” semiconductor chips unveiled at the prestigious event.

Taking to X, Sarma wrote: “The first Made in India Chips displayed at the #SemiconIndia2025 and proudly taking its place are two chips from Assam — the Tata OSAT Chip and the Neural Amplifier Frontend IC from NIT Silchar! Assam is moving steadily to ensure that it fuels India’s semiconductor journey.”

The showcase highlights Assam’s growing role in high-tech innovation, aligning with India’s push for self-reliance in the semiconductor sector.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his inaugural address at Semicon India 2025, emphasized the importance of building a robust ecosystem for semiconductors. He said the government is working on the next phase of the India Semiconductor Mission and the Design-Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme. Modi also underlined the significance of critical minerals, announcing that India has initiated work on a Critical Minerals Mission to meet rising global demand.

“We are working on the next phase of the India Semiconductor Mission,” Modi said, stressing the country’s commitment to scaling up semiconductor manufacturing and design capabilities.

Semicon India 2025, being held from September 2–4, brings together industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators from across the world. The three-day conference focuses on creating a resilient and sustainable semiconductor ecosystem, with sessions covering semiconductor fabs, advanced packaging, smart manufacturing, R&D, artificial intelligence, investment opportunities, and state-level policy implementation.

The event will also showcase the growth of India’s startup ecosystem, international collaborations, and future roadmaps for the sector, alongside highlighting initiatives under the DLI scheme.

This year’s edition has drawn more than 20,750 participants, including over 2,500 delegates from 48 countries, 150 speakers with over 50 global leaders, and more than 350 exhibitors. It will also host six country roundtable discussions, international pavilions, and dedicated spaces for workforce development and startups.
