Assam: Two more terror Suspects linked to Al-Qaeda arrested in Morigaon

Must read

Guwahati, Sept 12: Two more persons have been arrested in Assam with links with Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), an affiliate of Al-Qaeda in Indian Sub-continent or AQIS. Musadik Hussain and Ikramul Islam have been arrested by Morigaon police. Ikramul is an Imam and was arrested from Nagaon.

The two arrested were absconding for over a month, police sources said. They were said to be part of the Morigaon module of ABT led by a cleric Mufti Mustafa, who has been arrested earlier.

Earlier, one Madrassa was demolished in Morigaon district after suspected terror links with AQIS backed terror module.

Four madrassas in Assam have been demolished in the past one month over alleged links with the terror outfits and attempts to set up “jihadi sleeper cells” in the state.
Last month, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that Assam has become a hotbed of “jihadi activities”. He also announced that religious teachers at mosques and madrassas in Assam will be required to register themselves on a government portal if they come from outside the state.

Since April this year, Assam police have arrested over 40 people and a strict vigil is being maintained, particularly in the minority-dominated areas of lower and central Assam, in connection to AQIS-backed modules. Many of them are Imams of Masjids or teachers at private Madrassas.
