Be strong, do not fear any threat: Conrad to NPP workers on HNLC threat

Must read

Shillong, Oct 5: NPP supremo and Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday told the leaders and workers of the National People’s Party (NPP) that they need not fear any threat and ‘be strong’, even as he assured them that he and his party is with them.

Sangma’s statement comes as reaction to the threat issued by the proscribed HNLC on Monday against NPP workers. In a statement on Monday, the HNLC warned party workers of NPP and wants them to immediately resign from the party and refrain from joining the party within a month while adding “failing to do so, the Council will take strong measures against the higher- ups office bearers of the NPP in Khasi as well as in Jaintia Hills. Those who go against this warning will need not ask any questions or seek any answers from the HNLC.”

Questioning the timing of the threat and planting of the bomb at the NPP office in Shillong by the outfit on Monday, the NPP Chief stated, “I wonder why but the timing. That one day before Mr. Lamphrang Blah is supposed to join (NPP), somebody (HNLC) comes out with a statement like this. Are they scared? That NPP is growing from strength to strength.”

He was speaking at the joining ceremony of Lamphrang to NPP. Blah was also announced as the party candidate from Mawphlang constituency for the upcoming bye-elections slated for October 30, 2021 polling and counting on November 2, 2021.

‘Be strong, we are here to fight’

Installing confidence and encouraging the supporters of the party before the elections, Sangma exhorted, “I want to tell the people of NPP and all the supporters of NPP – be strong; we are here to fight for our people; we are here to ensure that we take our state forward. We should not be bogged down by these simple challenges that are thrown at us. I can assure you that we are all with you.”

He also stressed that there is no other strength that is more powerful than the power of the people.

“Let me tell you that after the power from above, the power that god has, second to that is only the power and will of people. There is no other strength that is more powerful than the democracy; there is no other strength that is more powerful than the power of the people.

Please don’t put these kinds of challenges,” he stated.

Govt will take all necessary action

He also assured that the state government will take ‘whatever steps necessary’ to ensure that the situation is taken care of.

“My entire cabinet, entire party leaders, myself as the party president and the Chief Minister we are here and we will take whatever steps necessary to ensure that we take care of this situation.”

“Therefore, there is nothing to fear and I urge each and every one of you to come out confidently and vote freely; support our candidate,” he said.
