Bernard escapes police dragnet, lands in Delhi

Must read

TURA, July 25: Absconding BJP MDC of Tura, Bernard N Marak alias Rimpu, has apparently fled to New Delhi escaping the police dragnet put in place to arrest him for running an illegal brothel in his farmhouse in Tura which was raided by Tura police on Friday night.

West Garo Hills police acknowledged that they missed the fleeing BJP MDC by a whisker as the wanted politician quietly boarded a Delhi bound flight from Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi airport Guwahati on Saturday evening.

The accused BJP MDC, who is also the vice president of the party in the state, had reportedly misled police by claiming in media releases that he would be returning to Tura to cooperate in the investigation process.

Police began a search operation after he failed to turn up at Shillong sadar police station when asked to do so on the night of the raid on his farmhouse.

Instead the BJP MDC disappeared to Guwahati and lodged himself at an undisclosed location.

“We had inputs on his movement in Guwahati but as we were held up with the raid and seizures he took advantage and boarded a flight to Delhi. We have got all the details. We will pursue his arrest even from Delhi,” assured West Garo Hills SP V S Rathore who led the raid on Rimpu’s farmhouse leading to the huge recovery of illegal alcohol, contraceptives and weapons.
