Tura, July 24: There was no roar of motorcycle engines at Jengjal Market on Saturday. Instead, the sound of sweeping brooms filled the air.
The Tribal Nation Riders (TNR), known for cruising the winding roads of the Garo Hills on their motorcycles, parked their bikes, rolled up their sleeves and came together for a cleanliness and awareness drive, proving that serving the community can be just as rewarding as the open road.
Working hand in hand with the Jengjal Bazaar Committee, the biker group picked up litter, swept roads and public spaces, and interacted with shoppers, school students and residents on the importance of cleanliness, hygiene and proper waste disposal.
Beyond cleaning the marketplace, the volunteers sought to leave behind a lasting message—especially for the youth—that maintaining clean public spaces is a shared responsibility and not just the duty of civic authorities.
“People know the Tribal Nation Riders for our bikes, but we also want to be recognised for serving society. We want every ride to leave behind a positive impact. It was this vision that inspired us to organise this cleanliness and waste management awareness programme,” said TNR chief Mangrak Ch. Momin.
He also thanked the district administration, police and local authorities for supporting the initiative.
“Our bikes bring us together, but our real purpose is to serve the community. If today’s effort makes even one young person think twice before littering, we will consider it a success,” said TNR advisor Sanjay M. Marak.
With enthusiastic participation from local youth, residents and members of the Jengjal Bazaar Committee, the drive showed how a group brought together by a shared passion for motorcycles can also become a force for positive change.
