SHILLONG, APR 23: BJP leader and Pynthorumkhrah MLA AL Hek on Thursday said the party plans to expand its footprint across Meghalaya ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections, with a target of winning up to 15 seats, including five from Shillong.

“Whether it is Shillong town, Khasi Hills or Jaintia Hills, we are going to expand the BJP in the whole of Meghalaya,” Hek told reporters.

He said party functionaries are working on the ground to strengthen the organisation.

“All senior leaders and karyakartas are working very sincerely to reach all places and constituencies so that in the 2028 elections, the BJP will perform very well,” he said.

Asked about the party’s seat projection, Hek said, “Not less than 10 or up to 15 seats we will win. In Shillong, we will get five seats.”

On whether the 2028 contest would be between the VPP and the BJP, he said he would not discount any party.

“I will not underestimate any political party. The Congress has its own way to contest, the NPP has its own way, the VPP has its own way. But the BJP will contest, and we will definitely win five seats from Shillong,” Hek said.
