SHILLONG, APR 23: BJP leader and Pynthorumkhrah legislator AL Hek on Thursday said the party continues to keep its doors open for former Chief Minister and TMC leader Mukul Sangma, stating that Sangma has sought time to consider the offer.
Asked if Sangma had rejected the BJP’s approach, Hek told reporters, “He has not said yes or no but he said give me some time to think. So, we are giving him space for him to think.”
On whether the party would approach the Leader of Opposition again, Hek said, “We will approach him anytime, any moment. There is no issue for us, the BJP.”
He added that the party had contacted Sangma last year as well.
“Last year we contacted him but he said he will take some time to think. We are giving him space. Time will come…let him think first,” Hek said.
Hek clarified that the outreach is not limited to Sangma.
“All the time, we will approach anyone, not only him but leaders from different political parties. We will approach them also,” he said.
Further, Hek said that leaders from both regional and national parties are already in touch with the party and they have expressed interest to join before 2028 Assembly general elections.
“So, far four sitting MLAs are in touch with me,” he said while refusing to disclose their names or party affiliations.
“The BJP’s door is always open. As many as they come, we will accommodate them,” he added.
