Shillong Nov 8: BJP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek on Wednesday said action should be taken against construction companies if they are involved in corruption while implementing important road projects in the state.
His statement came after JAC comprising of traditional headmen of War Jaintia Hills and the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) had threatened to file a PIL before the Meghalaya High Court against the alleged corruption in the construction of the Dawki-Amlarem-Jowai (NH 40E) (New NH 206) sanctioned by the Centre at Rs 43 crore.
The road was sanctioned by the Ministry of Roads Transport and Highways at Rs 43 crore. The work was allotted to the Dhar Construction Company on September 9, 2022 and the road was completed within 12 months.
However, after two months of its completion, the road has been damaged and is in a dilapidated condition, the JAC had alleged. This has also prompted the JAC to demand the government to blacklist the Dhar Construction Company.
Hek said that the BJP wants a corruption free government. “If the RTI proves that corruption practices are happening definitely, the government not only central but state government should also take action against that,” Hek said while adding that the government will take its own decision on the matter.
