The Joint Action Committee (JAC) consisting of teachers, non-teaching staff, and students from North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) decided to call off their indefinite protest on Thursday after a meeting with Vice-Chancellor Prof PS Shukla to discuss the former’s nine-point charter of demands.

BJP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek on Wednesday said action should be taken against construction companies if they are involved in corruption while implementing important road projects in the state.

The Chairman of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of NEHU, Prof. Lakhon Kma, has issued a stern warning to disclose the alleged irregularities involving the University's Vice Chancellor, Prof. PS Shukla. The focal point of contention revolves around the appointment of Rohit Prasad as Senior Technical Advisor, a position that, according to Prof. Kma, was filled without proper advertisement of the post.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) has demanded that the salary which has been paid to Rohit Prasad, who they alleged was illegally appointed as technical officer/senior consultant, should be recovered from the salary of NEHU Vice-Chancellor Prof Prabha Shankar Shukla with no expense borne by the university.
