Shillong, Aug 13: The state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has assured to take up with both the state and central governments regarding the issues pertinent to the other backward classes (OBC) population of the state.
The decision was taken during the first meeting of the party’s OBC Morcha held in presence of the state president Rikman G Momen, state vice president Bipen Pradhan and state general secretary Wankitbok Pohshna.

While addressing the gathering as one of the speakers, state general secretary Wankitbok Pohshna stated that the State BJP is ready to raise certain vital and pertinent OBC issues with both the State and Central governments.
Pohshna has reminded everyone that the government has not yet listed the OBC castes of Meghalaya; consequently the OBC community residing in the state stands handicapped by not being able to avail the 27% percent reservation in all central govt jobs and educational institutions.
Pohshna further stated that a delegation of BJP leaders are slated to meet the Chief Minster soon and discuss the grievances of the community and the obstacles faced by them on a regular basis.

Pohshna informed the people present in the meeting, that he has personally met with several OBC leaders and they have categorically stated that the community is not interested in any kind of state reservation but only wants to apply for various central govt jobs from which the community continues to be deprived as a direct result of Meghalaya not sending the list of OBCs to be recognised by the central government.
The BJP delegation is also preparing to meet several stakeholders to ensure that the matter is consensually resolved.
