BJP urges political parties to join all-party committee on Meghalaya railway connectivity

Must read

Shillong, May 12: The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called on all political parties to actively participate in all-party committees—particularly the one recently formed to examine railway connectivity in Meghalaya—emphasizing that inclusive dialogue is crucial for democratic governance.

“I feel political parties should not refrain from participating in such committees, as the government has invited all parties to freely express their respective opinions, which is the essence of democracy,” said BJP chief spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang on Sunday.

He added, “Only after taking into account all views can the government make a well-informed decision that serves the best interest of the people.”

His remarks follow the decision by the opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) and the Congress to withdraw from the all-party committee.

The Meghalaya government recently constituted the committee to examine the prospects of introducing and developing railway connectivity in the state. It has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive analysis of the potential benefits and challenges, engaging relevant stakeholders, and submitting its recommendations to the government.
